2.12.05 Trip to see Urbanus

We have just back from Belgium where we went to see how Urban is doing and Ihave to say we were very impressed, not only has he grown into a very handsome stallion, but he has still got the personality of a saint, he is so nice and easy to ride, very willing and really loves his jumping, showing he is just as good in front as he is behind, he never wants to touch a fence.
We watched him loose jump to about 150, he is so brave and careful and has obviously been produced very well. The following day we went to a very nice indoor Arena which was just out of this world, they had a course set up ready for the following day as they held regular shows there, on arriving some of the top european riders were schooling there young horses, such as Ludo Philippaerts, riding sons of Darco and Parco, although entering the arena with a coloured horse was pretty scary, he didn't look out of place what so ever and when we mentioned how he was bred they were very suprised! to see a coloured with bloodlines inc. Poorboy, Polydor and Major De La cour.
All looked on to see how he performed and i have to say he did us proud, he got some good comments all round. The young man who has been riding Urban is a very quiet rider and really got him working well they were a nice partnership to watch. We visited a few other jumping yards, and it was interesting to see how many other Poorboy horses were around, Urban is one of Poorboys oldest stock, we saw a very nice young horse at a lovely mans yard called John Pals he rides a Poorboy horse called Burberry who was champion in Lommel at 4 year old, they were great people and made us feel very welcome, he has a website you can visit www.highline-stud.com.
We also saw a Poorboy mare 4 year old she was a very scopey little mare but had been sold to Spain the previous week. Urban is now having a well deserved rest and will be produced for grading next spring, we are hoping to have him home competing next season.
I would like to thank Paul and Dirk for making sure we had such a great time and for looking after Urban so well. It was dream come true to be able to ride him after all this time, we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
